Michelle Obama on Monday retweeted another ex-first lady’s post opposing President Trump’s zero-tolerance policy of separating the children of asylum seekers caught entering the US illegally
“Sometimes truth transcends party,” she wrote along with a post from Laura Bush, wife of former President George W. Bush
“I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart,” Laura Bush had tweeted Sunday along with a link to an opinion piece she had written for the Washington Post critical of the child separations
Criticism of the commander-in-chief over the policy escalated Monday from both sides of the aisle, as well as from religious groups and advocates for immigrants
